Whoa Nelly!

Nelly Furtado

Our Rating: 7.5 / 10

Well maybe it is, but unlike any pop I've heard before. In her debut album, Nelly Furtado takes R&B, alternative, pop, and trip-hop, puts them all in a blender, and comes out with something completely new and refreshing.

It's really hard to believe you are listening to a 21-year-old, as she sings so passionately you wonder how she could have had the experience to back it all up. Listening closely to tracks like "Shit on the Radio (Remember the Days)" left me wanting to know the story behind the song. Who was she talking to… an ex-lover, and old friend?

It's this type of emotional attachment that Nelly brings to each of her songs on the album. Her individuality and creativity, just as her vocals, soar throughout every song. If all you've heard of Nelly Furtado are the radio-staples "I'm Like a Bird" and "Turn off the Light", do yourself a favor and go get this album. Believe me, you'll enjoy every minute of every song and you'll be thanking me later when she hits super-stardom.
