B.B. King - Atlanta - August 23 & 24, 2002

BB King - Nobody loves him except his mother

The King of the Blues teaching us all the blues

BB talking to the crowd in Atlanta

The King of the Blues, Mr. B.B. King, brought his 11th annual blues festival and his guitar Lucille to Atlanta for a two-night stand at the fabulous Chastain Park Amphitheatre.

B.B. King was in Atlanta as part of the Classic Chastain Series hosted by the Atlanta Symphony Orchestra.

B.B.'s band set the tempo for the show by opening with an instrumental that featured all the members, and then introduced BB to a thunderous roar from the crowd.

At 76 years old, The King of the Blues is just that: the master of his genre. BB was lively and energetic, and even interacted with the people at the first few tables.

His 105 minute set list showcased many of his well known classics, such as "Let the Good Times Roll" and "The Thrill is Gone", while also covered many lesser known staples such as "How Blue Can You Get?" Let's just say there were moments in the show when I felt sad just hearing BB make Lucille "talk".

After seeing this living legend in person, it's no wonder so many musicians consider him their inspiration and credit him with influencing every great guitar player of the last 40 years.

Overall, a wonderful show from one of the greatest musicians living in the world today. If you get a chance to see The King of the Blues in person, make sure you do. It's a performance that you'll never forget.
