The Driving USA Tour pulled into Atlanata for two sold-out shows on May 12th & 13th. I went in to the shows with high hopes, but was afraid Sir Paul couldn't hit the often high vocals that are a trademark of so many of his songs. Amazement doesn't even come close to what I felt. Paul was able to sing every song in its original key, and only missed a few of the notes.

The presentation was simple; just the five piece band, no elaborate stage setup as in his past tours. For these shows, Paul seemed to want to focus more on the music, and involved the audience in every aspect, from the opening "circus-like" montage to the stories he told between songs.

Paul was able to effectively cover all the periods of his music during the three-hour show, which is suprising given the scope of his career. The Beatles were very well represented, with 21 of the 36 songs being Beatles' classics. Paul also touched many emotions with his tributes to John, George, and late wife Linda.

I went expecting a good show, and a trip down memory lane. What I came away with was a new respect for a man who has changed the face of music many times, suffered many losses, and yet continues to look to the future with optimism. Perhaps it's that message, at the heart of Paul and his music, that means so much to so many. My only regret is that this might have been the last time we all get to go along for the ride. A+
